Janssen Clinic for Animals

Meet the Team

Dr. Peter Janssen, M.S., D.V.M.

Dr. Janssen was born and raised right here in Wisconsin. He attended the UW- Madison, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Zoology, a Masters Degree in Environmental Toxicology and, of course, a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. He has been practicing veterinary medicine since 1988 and opened the Janssen Clinic for Animals in 1990. In October ‘06, he was named Veterinarian of the Year at the WVTA annual convention, an honor that he is humbled by.

Many pets have been part of his life including dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, turtles, an alligator, a hermit crab and most recently a hedgehog. He enjoys spending time with his wife, Audrey (our office manager) and three children, Dana, Ava, and Peter. Dr. Janssen is thankful for all the wonderful clients and patients that he has had the privilege to know, and looks forward to each day at JCA!

Ellie, Veterinary Technician

Ellie came to the JCA team with over 6 years of experience as a Vet Tech including some emergency clinic vet tech work. As a graduate of the MATC Vet Tech she is excited to share her knowledge with pet owners and her own pets.

At home, Ellie's 3 cats, Gato, Fire and Gunther and her dog, Cody have made room for her daughter, Skylar, born August 2008 and Wyatt, born in November 2009!

Shilo, Veterinary Assistant

Shilo graduated with a Bachelors degree in Wildlife Ecology and Biology, from the UW - Madison. She joined the JCA team in 2006 and has recently gone back to school for some graduate courses as she also plans to attend Vet School in the future. Shilo grew up in Iola, Wisconsin with a variety of pets including everything from rabbits to horses. She now shares her home with two special kittys, Lollipop and Sprite, adopted from the Dane County Humane Society in April 2008.

Danielle, Veterinary Assistant

We are so happy to have Danielle on the JCA team! Danielle graduated as a veterinary technician from Globe University in June 2011. She is excited to be taking the board exam for veterinary technicians in the fall to become a Certified Veterinary Technician. During her spare time, she volunteers at many different animal rescue groups and a farm sanctuary to expand her knowledge and experience. Danielle grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, IL and moved to Wisconsin in 2008 with her husband and "kids" - Ruger, a chocolate lab, Darby, an Irish Setter, and Chloe, a calico kitty.

Kris, Veterinary Assistant

Kris is a 2011 graduate of the MATC veterinary technician program and earned her certification in August. She also holds a BA in Elementary Education and has experience teaching preschool. She will tell you, however, that becoming a CVT later in life helped her realize a childhood dream and follow through on a lifelong passion for helping animals. Kris is also a volunteer and frequent "foster mom" to kittens from the local organization Friends of Ferals.

Kris's family includes her husband, 2 sons (Ben and Josh), 2 cats (Ichiro and Cora), and a one-eyed rescue dog named Emily. She enjoys traveling and spending time with her 3 guys, as well as snuggling up on the couch with a good book and her 3 pets.

Vanessa, Veterinary Assistant

I was born and raised in Ecuador where I've had a few pets throughout my childhood. In 2001, I moved to Wisconsin to finish high school and earned a B.A. in Biology and Spanish from Ripon College where I did mostly laboratory and field work with wild animals. My biggest passion is animal behavior and I've always been interested in the human-animal bond. Currently I'm studying at Globe University to become a certified Veterinary Technician so that I can care for animals and learn from them and people.

My favorite hobby is dancing. I've participated in amateur dance competitions and done performances focusing in Latin rhythms and Tango.

I don't have any pets in Madison, but my little Shih Tzu mix, Nala, lives with my parents in Milwaukee. She's been our first and only dog since we moved to the U.S. and with whom I share a very special bond.

Leilani, Veterinary Assistant

Leilani joined the JCA team in 2006 to gain some hands on veterinary experience and is now attending the UW Vet School. She grew up in the Twin Cities area and moved to Madison for her undergraduate degree. In Spring 2006, she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Neurobiology & Psychology from UW-Madison. Leilani is the proud owner of Kellie, her 10 year old lucky adopted cat.

Janean, Veterinary Assistant

Janean is currently going to Globe University to become a CVT and will graduate in September 2012. Janean enjoys helping pets and their owners to have the best care possible. Growing up on a dairy farm in Monroe, WI, Janean does her share of milking cows and riding horses.

On the weekends, she can be found showing dairy cattle, pigs and horses at local shows and fairs. Being a large pet lover, Janean has 3 horses (Star, Second Chance and Smokey), 4 cows (Vicki, Mae, Dixie and Victor) and a lab named Junior who was born in October 2010.

Audrey, Office Manager

Behind the scenes most of the time, Audrey keeps the food ordered, the schedule up to date and the forms revised. With a talent for organization, Audrey brings a wealth of experience and energy to the clinic. She is a UW alumnus and also holds a Masters Degree in management from Cardinal Stritch College.

Audrey has had many pets in her life including lambs, dogs, cats and a horse. At home, she likes to keep busy with 4-H as the Cat Leader, Scouts, and many other activities with her three children.
